Kızılay, between 1876 Ottoman - Russian war and the Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974, in all the wars in which Turkey was participating, provided health care and treatment for many allied or enemy soliders, tens of thousands of Mehmetçik's that were wounded or fell ill on the battlefield, via mobile hospitals established behind front lines, patient transport services, hospital ships, trained nurses, and volunteering caregivers, provided necessary humane aid to prisoners of wars either Turkish or enemy, made efforts for care and preservation of the civilian population affected by the war, provided care, shelter, and nourishment for victims of natural disasters occured in our country since the cholera outbreak that emerged after the proclamation of the First Constitution in Istanbul, participated in international relief activities, pioneered in fields of nursing education, first aid, and services related to blood, and provided necessary social assistance and services to our many citizens that needed protection.
The purpose of Kızılay, wherever it is seen, is to prevent or alleviate human suffering, without any discrimination, to work to protect people's lives and health, to ensure that their personalities are respected, and to strive for mutual understanding among people, friendship, respect, cooperation, and lasting peace. Kızılay is a symbol of solidarity in a time of need, equality in a time of suffering, humanitarianism in the angriest moment of war, neutrality, and peace.
